Hex marks the spot
Hex is a different kind of shop.
In Salem, Massachusetts, that’s saying a lot.
Hex is one place that I visit every time I’m in Salem. It connects me with the romance, charm and mystery of New Orleans’ French Quarter. I’m reminded of how close we are to the “other side.”
Frankly, there’s something eerie about Hex… a good kind of eerie.
The aromas and decor are just part of it. The original art and crafts help, too.
WHAT TO BUY
Store owner Christian Day maintains high standards when he selects merchandise for the shop, and it shows. Many items are unique to Hex, and the quality is excellent.
For example, several displays at Hex feature their own blends of incenses and fragrances.
Many of their pendulum boards are one-of-a-kind, and their hats don’t look “costume-y” …while still reminding me of the Harry Potter movies. They’re original and well made.
Whether you’re looking for health, wealth, romance or fun, Hex has a product that may help.
The staff are wonderful. (They can be outrageous flirts, as well.) No matter how busy they are, they greet every visitor as if he or she is an honored guest. They take the time to explain everything, and really care about their customers.
Visiting Hex is more like spending time with friends than merely shopping. The personal touches make all the difference.
Hex’s psychic reader is one of the world’s most revered Witches, or, more correctly, a Strega Nona, practicing Sicilian traditions. She’s Lori Bruno, and there is no one I’d trust more for a reading.
She’s a warm, generous and caring Witch, with an above-average gift to see the future.
THE ALTAR
For many ghost hunters, Hex’s unique altar is the real magnet.
Everything on the altar has some connection to a spirit on the “other side.” It is respectful and celebrates the lives of those represented on it.
If you’re squeamish, you won’t want to look too closely. That’s an actual human skull on the altar, and — as far as I know — it’s the only one in any Salem shop.
The staff encourage visitors to cast their own spells or rituals at the altar. However, if you need some help, the staff include practicing Witches. (There’s no charge for the spell, but you will need to pay for the candle or other necessary ritual materials.)
The last time I was in Hex, they’d cast three spells the previous day. Those are three actual contacts with the spirits.
At the moment, I don’t have any great “ghost stories” connected with Hex, but I’ll keep visiting them.
In my opinion, any place that has an altar like that and makes daily contact with the spirits… well, it’s only a matter of time before the spirits show up on their own.
(I’m reminded of the queue of spirits waiting to see Whoopi Goldberg’s character in the movie, Ghost.)
This rave review may sound a little like an ad, but that’s because I’m so enthusiastic about this shop. (By the way, nobody asked me to write this review. )
If you’re in Salem, Massachusetts, visit Hex and see for yourself.
